Deeksha update

I’ve noticed that my most popular posts are the ones where I talk about my experiences with Deeksha, now known as Oneness Deeksha.  First I want to say that everyone I met through Deeksha are lovely people.  And second, I do think it’s a cult for many reasons that have already been discussed on this site.

Here are some links I’ve found that present some different ideas about Deeksha and about gurus/cults in general:

Interesting discussion on gurus: http://heartofnow.com/files/other.writings.html

Website debunking gurus: http://guruphiliac.blogspot.com/

There is also a guruphiliac yahoo group with lots of interesting discussions.

Cult Awareness Information: http://www.culthelp.info/index.php

Nothingness/Everythingness: http://sunyata.blogsome.com/

There are lots of websites on cult awareness and mind control.  If you are really interested, check them out and decide for yourself whether Deeksha is a cult.  I have a friend who continues to go every week and she feels it is a good way for her to relax each week.  She also has been involved with a cult in the past.  Right now, she seems fine.  I’ve discussed my feelings with her and she doesn’t have a problem talking about it so…maybe it’s not a cult, or maybe she has her eyes open.

Try to get a balanced picture and decide for yourself.

  1. I met a woman last summer who came to our yoga studio and gave us deeksha, then came back again and then just kept coming back for various workshops. Finally she asked if she could stay with us for a short time. That turned into two months and now she is going back to India to oneness university. I noticed over a period of time she became less peaceful and more and more agaitated and ego centric. She was consumed with making more money and that her teachings and deeksha were the only answers for our lives. everything inside of me screamed every time she began this discussion. I stopped going to her workshops even though she was staying with us and wouldn’t let her give me deeksha. I just thought something is wrong. Maybe its just her, but in researching and coming across this site, and others I keep finding that this changes people and maybe not in a good way.. thoughts would be appreciated.

  2. Does Deeksha change people? I don’t know the answer to that. I found it very relaxing. I also found it ungrounding, but this could have just been because of my circumstances and/or constitution. I have a good friend who continues to do it and she seems fine and is living her life the same way she always has.

I haven’t had deeksha for a few months now and I feel great. I do meditate every day and although I don’t feel like I’m getting a big burst of energy from it, I feel more grounded and clear from it.

RE: deeksha and the money: I don’t have a problem with paying for spiritual guidance, whatever it is. Healers need to make a living. BUT, I have seen deeksha givers asking for large sums of money to give deeksha over the phone – which seems like bullshit to me. And, you can imagine, if someone pays $5000 to learn how to give the energy, which is something that cannot be seen or touched or quantified – yeah, I bet they want to make that money back. There is a fine line with this. I think all teachers should be paid well and frequently they aren’t – but I also think there are scam artists.

  3. I am a diksha-giver (correction I was). I stopped with all this because it doesn’t felt right anymore. There is absolutely an addiction danger to it. Further more I’ve noticed that diksha-givers tend to have very narrowminded ideas about enlightement of the world. Bhagavan (and Diksha) is considered as the great savior. His word is the truth. He and his wive are divine so how can you argue with that. Most people who get involved with this are more or less very idealistic and many walk with their heads in the clouds. There is nothing wrong with that but a criticil view of it all is not one of their strongest points. Many people I met during diksha-activities are very obsessed with their spirituel growth and enlightement in general. After a while it became very boring to hang around them and these meetings. The message is always the same. Diksha will set mankind free and we shall live in the golden age in 2012. This may be true but is of no importance for me anymore. Because we are already free and enlightend. There was never a moment that we aren’t one with God because everything is God. This cannot be given to you and you definitely don’t have to surch for it because God is all there is. Listen to your own intuition and be aware of what is. For me I’m glad I stepped out of this diksha movement. However it was not an easy thing to do for me.Follow your own opinion is sometimes difficult. There is abolutely nothing to attain not even diksha (that is just another expierence). THIS IS IT folks.

  4. I completely agree – it’s just another experience billed as enlightenment and we all have what we need inside to be “one”.

  5. Okay – may I ask a few questions?

    1) In the US the predominance of Deeksha givers appear to be female between 40-50. Am I off?
    2) The aspects of Deeksha are derivative from ancient Indian guru practices of laying hands upon disciples.

My own spouse is wandering into these shadowy territories – and frankly it is very worrisome. I can not speak to her about it in any rational way as I am “unenlightened”.

    Thoughts?

  6. Hi Citizen Deux-

I don’t know the answer to your first question. From my limited experience there were more men giving Deeksha than women. The group I attended was balanced – two couples all in their 40s/50s. Another event I attended had 3 men and 2 women.

Your second statement is correct: the Oneness Movement has co-opted the sanskrit term “deeksha” for their purposes but I believe most Indian gurus have some form of deeksha. In fact, Reiki healing is a deeksha according to sanskrit definition.

I agree with Petra’s comments that we have everything we need to be enlightened. To me, never sought enlightenment. Deeksha was just another new-agey thing to try and I had a new friend who couldn’t stop talking about it so I tried it. And it gave me a constant high during a difficult time – my mom was dying at the time so…it felt really good.

Enlightenment seems to be about getting out of yourself and realizing that we are all connected, all part of the same energy/life force/whatever you want to call it. I suppose it helps to do this with meditation but it can happen when you are walking down the street passing by homeless people and maybe you realize that they are not so different or separate from you.

You don’t need deeksha for enlightenment. You don’t need to pay for enlightenment. If you could, wouldn’t everyone do it?

  7. I think the market would agree with you. If enlightenment could be bought, we’d all have it.

  8. [...] found a link pointing here from an "inbetweengirl", seemed to be quite open-minded about the Oneness Deeksha, and asking others to be open-minded too. Then, i came across a more [...]

  9. citizen deux,
dont be afraid. Trust. She has to do her life experience. Set her free to do what she wants to do. this is Love. Don’t interfere. you just be with yourself, in silent, in honesty.

  10. You should also get a balanced view on your sources of information. For instance, Jody Radzik (owner of the Guruphiliac Blog) claimed:

    1) He is Self-Realized and Enlightened.
    2) He is a devotee of the Hindu Goddess Kali Ma.
    3) He has a Guru whose name he keeps secret.
    4) He uses and promotes illegal psychedelic drugs.

The Truth About The Guruphiliac Owner, Jody Radzik

The guru-basher is a wannabee guru himself. Nice research there.

  11. 1) What is wrong with psychedelic drugs? Have you tried them?
    Wath this at least: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlyKjTVnzGo
    2) What is wrong with having a guru, and keeping it within yourself?
    3) What is wrong with being devotee of the principle of death and rebirth?
    4) What is wrong in knowing that we are already enlightened?

I personally have not much sympathy towards that Jody , but I dont get the point of your post, Joe.
JOdy is a fellow, exposing all these fake gurus around and specially all these Avatards, growing like mushrooms, and becoming milliardairs at expenses of lost people. This is the time were everyone would pretend to be a guru. this is the time where more than ever we shall learn to trust our inner authority.

  12. I completely agree Mauricio….

  13. Hi This guy Bhagavan and his wife are certainly a world number one cheating couple and i think should be in Guinness Record book for Cheating couple. I was surprised to see, this uneducated (of course this guy had a BS degree) but the lady has no education, but he has the talent to cheat the whole world. I am surprised and he one hell of the talented cheat.

he is cult master, please read this and make your own decision
    http://www.the7thfire.com/new_world_order/mind_control/battle_for_your_mind.htm

This deeksha is bullshit; there is no energy or nothing… IT is the pyramid scheme of the master cheat Bhagavan guy.

These deeksha givers give deeksha for $ 20.00 to $ 50.00 but if the deeksha sends one person to INDIA for 21 day process, this Bhagavan cheat gets $5500.00 for nothing.

He claims Enlightenment, asking him to one enlighten person in the USA or any country, if this is the case, this Bhagavan guy will lose his business. No one had enlightenment only these people are broke, lost job and in some cases become mentally disturbed.

I think this Bhagavan and wife will go to HELL without any doubt for this kind of cheating the Humanity.

I hope he goes to hell soon to prevent any more cheating

  15. I have gone to the Oneness University and had some amazing experiences. I have also experienced a lot of darkness and emotional instablility. I have been back for 6 months now and unsure about where I stand on the whole issue. I think the Diksha itself is beautiful. Amma Bhagavan are NOT my gurus…I have been a devotee of Ammachi and a Tibetan Rinpoche for some time now. So when I give diksha I go direct to Source and dont call upon AmmaBhagavan. They say that all the darkness and negativity that arises is your negativity clearing itself out as it purifies you.
But I’m not sure about that!! I have done healing work for many years and always held the belief that we dont have to go through these cathartic experiences to heal…
I have met so many lovely people who are also diksha givers and the ones who I respect the most dont really follow the organization and its politics.
I never agreed with the expensive price of the course…although someone did pay for me to go so I do believe that it is possible to manifest the money to go if one has a sincere intention.
My intention in going there was to serve others…the idea of a 3 minute blessing to heal the brain seemed very appealing and convenient to me….It seemed as though it would be accessible to many people.
Anyway…I am a seeker of truth and I’m not sure at this point why I was guided so effortlessly to go to the Oneness University…
But I do know that many people have benefited immensely from the blessing…the dasas or guides ( like monks ) there are absoloutly lovely and many people have benefited…
Let your intuition be your guide & Bless all of you who have vowed to reach enlightenment and grow spiritually for the highest good of ALL beings!
    Om Nama Shiva Ya!

  16. ok then i must leave a comment here
i’ve done the trainings in oneness university myself
and i have given deeksha too….

now what i found out, after a while is this:

    People need love.

And people need to GIVE love.

That’s all there is to it. When I give a ‘deeksha’ to someone, what I really do is just being there for that person, fully, unconditionally, loving that person. As if I became God for a minute. As if i reconnect with that divine roots we all come from, with our creator. THIS is what the deeksha-trip is about, we come from grace, divine spirit, and, we will always be.
SO if I am full with this intent and be with someone, people start to feel really good.
First I thought it was a thing coming from Bhagavan and Amma. Now, I see it’s universal love, universal power, and, I have learned to tap into that. For myself, for others.
As for Bhagavan and Amma, yeah, it’s weird isn’t it?
    Playing god. hahahaha
It’s okay with me though – let them be, they are indians. what to do. It’s a different mind-set.
But for me, I see now everything is made of the stuff called love, grace. And everyone can feel that.
You be with someone, fully present, and listen to that person, and a big healing begins. That, my friends, that is deeksha, that is blessing.
No need for hands on heads or this or that.
So I’m not going to waste too much energy in debating wether Bhagavan and Oneness University and all this is ‘true’ or not, it doesnt matter – there’s been a change in me, because, through my journey there, I started to look for god, for divine grace – And I found it. It’s everywhere! We ARE god. We ARE being guided and graced by energies that are bigger than our heads can understand or contain.
So, I let go to that unknown.
Thank you to Bhagavan, thank you to everyone here on the forum, thank you, life, thank you, my own sceptical mind, for searching and looking and finding.

    Peace – M

  17. I have had deeksha and it did nothing but I think just cause I was not open t it… My friend told me I should meditate and I thought it was all a little bit ‘hippy’ for me so didn’t bother….. and then i smoked some DMT and OH MY GOD!!!!!! I can’t belive it, it was nothing like taking a drug it was the most amazing experiance I thought was ever possible, everyone I personally feel who is slightly in between and is not quite sure of having a spiritual side really should try smoking it, nothig compares! now I meditate every day, two hours, Maybe deeksha is good but All is already insid one…… x

  18. I still don’t understand if Kalki is fake ,where does the energy come from ? I have take many deeksha’s and I had some very special experiences. Can some explain to me where the energy comes from ? thanks
